 I found my piece of writing about Europe in 200 years - I thought I had lost it.

What will Europe look like in 200 years?

Nation states will have eroded at the centres and the edges.  What used to be called wars will be skirmishes; people will all feel the same so will not remember what to fight about.

Cars will no longer exist; long distance travel will be slower using solar powered airships that fly above the clouds.

Virtual reality will be seen as a phase, everyone will be interested in feeling inside their bodies and experiencing life first hand.

Technical augmentation of the body will be possible but few people will choose to have the procedures.

Cancer, infection, blindness and most illnesses will be cheaply curable through programmable Bio Nano Bots.

People will still be making art.

The Sahara desert will be reforested in a massive global collaboration using underground water supplies and highly efficient solar energy. It will be renamed carbon sink and people who choose to live a “natural” life of a pioneer will be encouraged to live there and act as custodians.

Capitalism will be talked of as a historic age we will have moved into the age of collaboration.

Food will be produced locally and be seasonal, more people will be involved in agriculture and food production as we have realized that it is important for peoples mental health that they are involved in something worthwhile.

Everyone will be Vegan.

There will be a small proportion of super rich who will live in walled city-states.  Nobody will care about them and most people will see them as old fashioned and feel a bit sorry for them.

Man made climate change will be progressing and the world will still be warming. Scientists will predict a 500 year cycle and be preparing for movement and food distribution it will no longer be called migration and will be excepted as how the world is.

People will remember when the change happened, when a population took control away from an elite that were only interested in greed and fire. It was a slow revolution which concerned itself with making sense and not violence. A coming of age of a species that had always had a potential to be better but consistently forgot to do anything about it.

His pacifist engagement spanned the world of social relations, the inner world of our hearts and minds as well as the world in which we exist in interdependence with the rest of nature. Some thoughts on treescapes of the future

      Calling for a decolonisation of the climate change agenda, Sultana (2022), writes “I want to interlace with the fleshiness of climate, the pasts and presents in our bodies, minds, soils, kin – where the theory is in the flesh.” When I try to write about treescapes 200 years from now, I think about how ((more than) human?) imaginaries might shift as much as material realities. I know that trees have memories, relational networks and complex systems of communication, but I only know this in an abstract way. I desire to know about trees from the inside (Ingold, 2013), with all their fleshy and lived reality. Might this be part of the future of treescapes?   Sultana (2022) also draws on Tuck and Ree’s (2013) beautiful writing on ‘A Glossary of Haunting’. It all went very fast in the end. It had taken roughly two centuries for carbondioxide levels in the atmosphere to peak, from the late 19th century to the second half of the 21st century. After that, it took another two centuries for emissions to return to pre-1870 levels, even if it would take much longer for the amount of carbondioxide that was already in the atmosphere to diminish.
